About
Founded in 2004, Adelante Hispanic Achievers (AHA) was created to help Louisville's growing Hispanic and Latinx student population access the resources, mentorship, and opportunities needed to achieve their full potential. Established by former JCPS School Board Chair Stephen Imhoff and a coalition of community leaders, Adelante has remained committed to empowering youth of Hispanic heritage to fulfill their aspirations as well-rounded and engaged members of the global community. Over the past 20 years, the organization has played a vital role in supporting students and families while contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of Louisville.
Through periods of growth and challenge, Adelante has continually adapted to meet the needs of immigrant and first-generation families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization successfully transitioned its programs online to maintain academic support, mentorship, and community connections. Since returning to in-person programming, Adelante has expanded its reach through innovative, culturally responsive programs focused on academic success, social-emotional growth, career exploration, and leadership development. Since 2005, more than 1,250 students have participated in Adelante programs, with many becoming first-generation college students and successful professionals.
Today, Adelante is recognized as Louisville's only organization dedicated exclusively to Latinx student success and is regarded as a leader in youth development and educational equity. National and local honors, including recognition from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and Excelencia in Education, reflect the organization's impact and reputation. Through strong partnerships with schools, colleges, employers, and community organizations, Adelante continues to create pathways to higher education, skilled trades, and meaningful careers while preparing the next generation of leaders to strengthen and enrich our community. And the results are powerful. 100% of Adelante seniors have graduated from high school on time, compared with approximately 78–83% among Hispanic students locally and nationally. 80–84% of Adelante seniors have been accepted to and enrolled in college, compared with approximately 59% of Hispanic graduates nationally. And our students maintain an average 3.4 GPA, exceeding the approximately 3.0 national and state averages.
At Adelante, we believe that when young people have access to support, mentorship, opportunity, and someone who believes in their potential, they can achieve extraordinary things. We don't just help students get ready for their next step—we help them see what is possible and give them the tools, relationships, and confidence to get there.
